Sound design for a film you've already cut
Upload the finished film. Dallfy finds every cut, works out where each shot takes place and what should be heard there, and lays a score, the room sound and the effects on lanes of their own under the picture. You set the levels on a mixer and export one file, measured for where it's going, with stems beside it if you want them.
Films made with Dallfy
From a cut to a finished mix in four steps
Upload the film
An MP4, MOV or WebM up to 2 GB, cut in any editor. Your file is kept as it is.
Read the film
Dallfy finds the cuts and lists every shot with its place, the sound of the room, and the moments that need a sound, like a door shutting or a glass set down. Correct anything before a sound is made.
Make the lanes
The score runs under each stretch of shots in one place and the room sound under each place, and the effects land on their moments. Each piece shows its price on its button. Listen to it, and make it again if it's wrong.
Mix and export
Set each lane's fader and pan, mute or solo it, and pick where the film is going. The export is measured to that loudness, with stems as WAV files if you switch them on.
What each lane holds
A1 · Dialogue
The voices. On an uploaded film this is the film's own track, until you separate the voices from it.
A1b · Original
After separating, the rest of the film's track: old music, the room, the effects. Keep it low under the voices or leave it out.
A2 · Score
Music written for each run of shots in one place, ducked under the lines.
A3 · Ambience
The sound of the place: rain on a roof, traffic through a wall, a room full of people. One bed for each place, so it doesn't change at every cut.
A4 · Effects
A door, footsteps, a lighter, glass. Each one is placed on the moment the reading found in the shot.
Master
For the web, podcasts, broadcast in Europe or the US, or a streamer that measures the dialogue alone. The finished file is measured, and the reading is kept with it.
Questions about AI sound design
What is AI sound design?
It is the sound a film needs besides its dialogue: music under the scenes, the background of each place (rain, traffic, a busy room) and the effects tied to what happens on screen. Dallfy watches your film to work out what each shot needs, then makes those pieces for you to mix.
Can I add sound to a film I made somewhere else?
Yes. Sound design is for films cut in any editor. Upload the finished file and the desk opens on it. Films made in Dallfy's Movie Engine get the same lanes on their Edit stage.
Will my dialogue be kept?
Yes. Your film's own track stays on its lane, and the new sound drops under the speech. If the voices are mixed in with old music, Separate takes the voices onto a lane of their own, and you can keep the rest of the track low under them or leave it out.
How does it know where a door or a footstep is?
The cuts are found in the picture itself, frame by frame. Each shot is then watched with its sound to name the place, the room and the moments that need an effect. You can rename a place, rewrite a room or add a moment before anything is made.
What happens if I re-cut the film?
Each piece belongs to its shots, not to a time on the clock. Upload the new cut and read it again: shots that didn't move keep their sound, and a piece whose shots changed is marked to be made again, so it never plays in the wrong place.
How loud will the export be?
As loud as where it's going. Pick the web (about -14 LUFS), podcasts, broadcast in Europe (EBU R128) or the US (ATSC A/85), or a streamer that measures the dialogue at -27. Every export is measured after it's made, with a true-peak ceiling, and the reading is kept with the film.
Can I get stems for a mixer or a dub?
Yes. Switch Stems on and the export comes with a zip of 48 kHz, 24-bit WAV files: dialogue, music, effects, an M&E for dubbing and a printmaster. A sheet in the zip gives each file's loudness. The zip is kept for 30 days.
Can I dub the finished film?
Yes. The Languages tab dubs the dialogue alone into any of 108 languages in the original voices, then mixes the film again under the new voices, so the music and the room sit right in every language.
What does it cost?
Each piece has its price on its button, and nothing is charged until you press it. Separating the voices is priced by the minute. A piece that fails gives its credits back.
